It was an intense situation today. Saturday, October 4th. Just after 12pm. I was at Bella Bakery on N. Royal Poinciana for my weekly meeting with Yusniel Ruiz of Global IT group, the designer of the new River Cities Gazette website. The Gazette has now gone fully digital. (riverCitiesGazette.NET) Yusniel has done an amazing job creating a user friendly, smooth platform for our readers to absorb and enjoy. So big thanks to Yusniel.
I could feel the heat, I could hear the explosions and I could smell the strong smoky aroma in the air. Miami Dade Fire Rescue was on the scene in minutes. You could hear the fiz of the fire being extinguished as the water hit the blaze.
The adrenaline filled my veins and the goosebumps covered my body. I looked at Yusniel and said “Hey, this is news.” So I put myself inside the smoke for you. You can watch the situation live on the River Cities Gazette Facebook page. Thank God the Public Works building was closed, and nobody was injured, as rescue workers had to saw open the gate to get into the parking lot. It was one of the trucks filled with debris that had caught on fire somehow. Not sure how the fire started. But I know this has happened before. Perhaps this will teach us a lesson as a calm beautiful fall day can quickly turn on you. That’s the roller-coaster of life. One minute everything is calm, the next second you’re in the midst of a HOT flash of danger.

No it’s NOT something that you want to see here inside the safe hide-away. But it is a perfect example of how the local emergency service professionals handled the situation with a calm demeanor. They handled the emergency with grace and professionalism. You know they have been in this situation many times before. Miami Springs Police closed off the streets both in front of the Public Works building on N. Royal Poinciana Blvd. and behind the building on Swallow Dr. as the entrance into the parking lot is on the Swallow side.
It did not take them long to put out the blaze. As the fire was extinguished within the hour. Hats off to the local Fire Rescue and Police officers. They truly do put themselves in heated emergency situations to protect all of us. They are an example of people that risk their lives for the safety of the community. Well done.. We appreciate you here from the River Cities Gazette.
