Saturday, January 31st 2026 in the heart of Miami Springs at the circle, we said goodbye to the month of January and hello to literacy at the Literacy Fair presented by Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis. The City of Miami Springs is well known for this type of event. The circle was surrounded by booths and vendors. Free food like pizza from Papa Johns and popcorn was given out. As well as face painting, pet adoption, raffles, arts and crafts and of course book giveaways. This was the beginning of Literacy Week, an amazingly positive cause. Even the Girl Scouts were there to sell their delicious cookies. The Dade County Mobile Library was available as well as the mobile licence renewal bus.
The City of Miami Springs counsel members were all there to show support as well as the City of Miami Springs Police Department and the Virginia Gardens Police Department. Mayor of Virginia Gardens Spencer Deno IV was on the scene. Medley even became part of the action with Vice Mayor Arturo Jinete. Also school board member Dan Espino was smiling away as positivity and love spread like wildfire.
It truly was a fun filled family event to be remembered with music inside the gazebo and awards. This Literacy Fair showed off our true colors here in the River Cities area. It was filled with smiles, laughs, high fives, hand shakes and hugs. A big River Cities Gazette thanks goes out to everyone involved.
