Entertainment in the River Cities area is alive, well, and even thriving! While the
landscape has changed in the years since I opened the guitar shop, It’s good to see
people going out and partaking in what the local establishments are offering. As I am a
guitar player that grew up on the rock music of the 70s and 80s, my coverage will be
mostly focused on places that provide that type of entertainment. While The Hurricane
is gone, Hole 19 has pretty much picked up where that left off, with a twist of a DJ and
dance music on Friday nights. Uncle Hanks has taken over where Crackers was, and
they are offering live music, currently Saturday afternoons for the lunch crowd.
While the ownership at Woodys Backyard Grill has changed a few times, they are still
offering classic rock bands on Friday nights, and an ‘Open Mic’ on Wednesday nights.
Karaoke is your thing, Woodys offers it on Tuesday nights, Hole 19 on Wednesday
nights.
The Blessed Trinity Church Carnival will be coming up December 11 thru 14. We will
have some local bands like Backbeat, Flashbacks, Allies, and Out of the Ashes rocking
it out.
Every Thursday on River Cities Gazette Facebook I do a weekend report on what
entertainment is at the local venues and any special events that might be happening. If
you know of an event coming up, contact me so that it can be mentioned.
I’d really like to give a shout out to the guys that have been doing the Open Mic
Wednesdays at Woodys Backyard Grill. It’s a great event, bringing out the local bands
like Backbeat and musicians like Albert Justo and Tony Magnole to gather like we used
to at Ray’s Guitars N Gear pre-pandemic.
