Park Street in front of Miami Springs Police Department officially named Ofcr. Donald E. Mazzone Way

On Monday, December 8th 2025 the City of Miami Springs held an official ceremony in front of the police station commemorating retired officer Donald E Mazzone. The street in front of the Miami Springs Police Department was officially named Ofcr. Donald E. Mazzone Way. Family attended the event to accept the plaque making it Donald E. Mazzone day. His children spoke about their father who passed away earlier this year. His daughter Lynn Lilly said “Her fondest memories of him were of them showing horses, it was something we did as a family” Chief of police Matthew Castillo was there to unveil the new street sign. He said “May his legacy continue to guide us forward.”

If you drove through the streets of Miami Springs during the 34 years of service of Motorcycle officer Don Mazzone between 1968 and 2002. Chances are you were pulled over a couple times by officer Mazzone. Whether you were lucky enough to just receive a warning or get written up on a citation. You probably remember this legendary strict traffic enforcer. If you got the warning, It wasn’t just “you are warned.” He gave you a wise speech on what you did wrong and why you shouldn’t repeat your folly. Which made more of an impact than a ticket. He will truly be remembered and missed not only by his family as a loving father. But by current law enforcement officers as he truly sets an example here in the safe hide-away of Miami Springs.
