A Look Back. Miami Springs – Hialeah Lift Bridge

This rare photo of the vertical lift bridge connecting Hialeah to Miami Springs. It adds to the nostalgic feel to historic downtown Miami Springs. The photo shows the bridge in its up position. In 1954 the bridge was moved up the Miami Canal by barge from its original location NW 36th ST. The bridge was designed, fabricated and installed by the Champion Bridge Company of Ohio. Due to the damming of the Miami River in the 1940’s, the bridge’s vertical lift truss span no longer needed to operate in order for boats to travel through. Both bridge’s used to enter Miami Springs from Hialeah and enter Hialeah from Miami Springs are currently being repaired and upgraded. Thanks to Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis.
