You woke up this morning. You opened your eyes and put your feet on the floor next to your bed. You got up and brewed your coffee. You said good morning to your spouse and patted your dog on the head, then rubbed your cat’s belly. You made your peace with God and told him thanks, I’m still here. But some of us don’t have this. Some of us have moved on and don’t get to walk their dog in the morning. Some of us fought on the field of battle and sacrificed the only life they have, so that WE can wake up and have a fresh cup of life on planet Earth. So just open your eyes to the fact that we are still here because others aren’t. So open your eyes to the fact that you get to do, what makes you happy today. That you have today. That you get to go to the grocery store and fill up a shopping cart. That you get to make lunch for your son or daughter and send them on their way to school. That you are able to drive to the beach and put those feet on the sandy shores. That you get to take in the rays of the Sun and take a deep breath of fresh air. Notice what you have. Focus on the positives in life. See what makes you happy and that you have those things. Notice the haves, don’t focus on your problems or what you don’t have. Just realize that you are blessed to be able to take another breath. That you are able to face your challenges and be rewarded by conquering them. That you are empowered by facing your fears and smiling in the face of your adversities.
It was the morning of Monday, May 25 2026. The ceremony was held here in the heart of Miami Springs to show our remembrance to those that gave their lives so that we can live free. It was Memorial Day and there was a breeze in the air. A breeze that cooled our skin with a feeling of calm gratitude. It was a beautiful day in paradise and the ceremony went off without a hitch. The color guard brought in the flags without emotion on their faces. Local law enforcement was on hand, not to settle an emergency. To salute the men and women that gave their lives for us. It was a gathering of all the neighboring communities like Virginia Gardens like Medley and Hialeah. The River Cities came together and we shook each other’s hand and smiled at each other. Knowing that we are still here today because they aren’t.
Local politicians were on hand to guide the ceremony, along with local girl and boy-scouts that retired our flag in fire that burns at the Miami Springs War Memorial. A beautiful structure that was built for a purpose. So just realize that YOU were built for a purpose. It’s up to you to figure out what that is. Then make it happen.
