Please hold your applause for after the article. I took the day off from hitting the links on the Miami Springs Country Club golf course for this. Family is the most precious gift that we possess. There are friends and Family… Acquaintances in our life, but never put them above Family. (Notice I use a capital F in all these references because that is how important your blood should be in your life.) I am very fortunate, (and many others aren’t,) to have family who care for me as I get older. And they will be with me to the end. None of us know when that will be.
But we can hope and we can pray that it will come much later. As aging isn’t pretty, but it’s inevitable. I am not as sharp as I once was, but still sharp enough to live life day-to-day in a positive way. Positivity is the theme that my oldest son, Brad Curtis, (the Publisher of River Cities Gazette,) preaches, and he tries to instill that trait in me. Our family members and throughout the River Cities Gazette note that moniker is now and will continue to be part of this community thanks to him. Being realistic is the theme I give to my younger son, Matt. He is much more sensitive and alot like his mother, Debbie, who helped raise our boys the right way. He is an entrepreneur and works very hard to succeed in business and be a good father to his son, Matty.
Tammi, actually Tamara, I call her the goal seeker, and she has many of the competitive traits of her father. Not that the other two don’t, just not as distinct. She wants to win at everything, like her old man, and she’s built a life and family in Michigan, following in my footsteps to the real UM, University of Michigan. The three are my pieces of gold, and there are ancillaries. My grandsons CJ Carr, (starting QB at Notre Dame,) and (the soon to be quarterback at Michigan,) Tommy Carr take after me also.
Maybe Matt’s son will end up the best QB of all. He is still young and maturing, but the QB bloodline is there, and hopefully I am still around to see what life has in store for him. Enough about quarterbacks. I would be remissed not to mention Chad, Tammy’s youngest, who lost his battle with DIPG and left a hole in all of our lives forever. Chatters, as Grandma Debbie used to call him, will be in the Curtis hall of fame forever, and he will not be forgotten. I hope each of you here has a family in your life like me. Nothing is more important, and don’t forget to say I love you over and over again.
