River Cities Gazette & The Latchkey Kids Set Woody’s On Fire

On Friday, July 24th, Woody’s Backyard Grill (600 Payne Dr.) was already buzzing before the first note hit. The place was packed wall-to-wall and filled with positive vibes—friends grabbing seats where they could, laughter floating over the hum of conversation, and that familiar weekend mood settling in early. The Springview kids were on the playground after the bike parade as The Latchkey Kids took the stage, with heads turning toward the setup and phones ready to capture the moment. Under the glow of the patio lights and the thick summer air, the anticipation kept rising as the crowd leaned in, ready for the night to lift off. And when the band finally started, the vibrations jumped even higher as the weekend feeling locked in for real.

The crowd erupted into motion—hands clapping, feet tapping, high fives flying, and heads bobbing to the tune of The Latchkey Kids nonstop energy. The Latchkey Kids didn’t just play to the room; they worked it, feeding off every cheer and sending it right back with tight grooves, sharp riffs, and sing-along hooks that had people shouting the words between smiles. The dance-ready moments hit especially hard—when the rhythm dropped and snapped back in, you could feel the whole patio move like one big heartbeat. Every time the band kicked up the tempo, the crowd answered louder, turning the night into a full-on celebration. The staff matched the band’s pace with hustle and heart, keeping drinks flowing, delicious food hot and steamy and tables happy without missing a beat. Even the owners, Tony and David were sweating away making sure the needs of the crowd were met. That’s the magic at Woody’s Backyard Grill—the same kind of energy, from the stage to the service, that keeps the whole place on fire.

As I step into the role of the publisher of River Cities Gazette. I reflect on how my father Tom started the newspaper when I was two years old. I have been surrounded by the Gazette my entire life. Born and raised in Miami Springs. My father was my little league coach, we were the Padres. I went to Springview Elementary as a young one. I graduated from Miami Springs Senior High School as a part of the school newspaper. The Zeitgeist was the name of the paper. It refers to the moral and cultural climate of the specific era. I was a writer and the photographer of The Zeitgeist. I graduated with honors in 1996. I attended University of South Florida in Tampa and received my associates of arts degree. For the last twenty five years, I have been the assistant publisher of the River Cities Gazette. It was the plan from the start for me to take over the helm. As the Gazette is a family business. I am ecstatic to announce. That day has come. My passion, my dedication, my focus and my drive has been the River Cities Gazette for the majority of my adult life. As I continue the legacy of greatness passed down to me by my father Tom Curtis. And take over the reins as a true leader. Ready to tackle any issue that comes my way. Thanks to God, I have the strength to do so.
